Match report Purley Sunday 1sts travelled to a very damp Braywood for this Yorkshire Tea National Village Cup game which was also their first game of the season.

Braywood won the toss and decided to field, a decision they were soon to rue.

A maiden over first up followed by the wicket of Pete Rackley in the 2nd gave the home side a perhaps false view of what was to follow.

Purley picked up the scoring rate with 16 off the 4th over followed by 18 off the 6th - Pat Allen and James Measham racing to 63 off the first 10 overs before the loss of James. Pat and "Rajiv" Reber continued to build the score with a partnership of 101 before Reber fell in the 31st over with the score on 165.

Mayhem then ensuing with Pat Allen leading the attack as Purley put runs on at a rate of 10 an over to reach 271 for 4 off 40 overs.

Patrick Allen 183 not out = including 14 fours and 12 six's - a club record.

In reply Braywood wickets fell regularly as they were dismissed for 69 - veteran Cyril Cox leading the Purley attack with a 5fer (5-1-11-5).

But a game to be long remembered for the onslaught of Pat Allen!
