Cookham Dean v Purley on Thames Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 03 May 2008 at 1:30pm
Purley on Thames Cricket Club Won By 8 wickets
Purley travelled to fellow Thames Valley League newcomers, Cookham Dean, on a day when most local cricket had been postponed following a week of heavy rain. Cookham Dean however rescued the game by preparing a pitch for a final interesting test of strength (Cookham Dean are in Div 4A - Purley in 4b) before the start of the league season.
Alan Schofield won the toss and inserted the home side to bat on a very wet strip.
The Purley bowlers and fielders supported the decision by bowling tightly on a difficult batting track. Cookham totalled only 137 for 7 off 40 overs as they were pinned down.
Purley's response was led by the in form Patrick Allen(60 not out) who after the early loss of his opening partner, Farrukh Sultan (5), formed good partnerships of 45 with Jalil Sear (22) and secondly of 85 with Paul Reber (40 not out) to see Purley home to a comfortable win in 26.2 overs.
Another good win.
