Purley on Thames Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Chiswick & Latymer 2nds on Sat 10 May 2008 at 1:30pm
Purley on Thames Cricket Club Won By 9 wickets
Purley on Thames 1st XI proved too strong for Chiswick and Latymer 2nd XI in the opening game of the Thames Valley Division 4B season.
Chiswick won the toss and decided to bat first on a very warm afternoon at the Goosecroft Lane ground, it was a decision they soon regretted when they were reeling at 16 for 7. Purleys new ball attack of Lance Harris and Caleb Maycock tore through the Chiswick batting line up, Harris claimed figures of 5 for 9 and Maycock 3 for 22. There were 4 catches behind the wicket for 1st team debutant Chris Rackley.
A late order stand by J.Lee (31) and R Somten (35) held Purley up as Chiswick rallied to scrap their way up to 103 all out off of 35 overs.
Purley replied with a flurry of boundaries from openers Patrick Allen and Alan Schofield. Skipper Alan Schofield looked fluent in his innings of 39 before being caught at mid wicket. Jalil Sear came in and finished the game off with 5 well struck boundaries.
An encouraging debut in the Thames Valley League but early days yet, it will take a few weeks for the division to even out and the relative strengths of the teams to become apparent.
