Purley on Thames 1st XI came so close to completing their second victory in the Thames Valley League only failing to pick up the final wicket.
On a windy day at the Goosecroft Lane Ground Purley on Thames won the toss and chose to bat first on a firm looking wicket. Openers Patrick Allen and Alan Schofield made a steady start putting on 54 for the 1st wicket before Allen was bowled by Shaw for 21. The main partnership of the home teams innings was between captain Alan Schofield and all rounder Andy Wheeler, they put on a partnership of 74 for the 5th wicket. Wheeler eventually being bowled for a very well made 55. A cluster of wickets fell at the back end of the Purley innings before 16 year old wicket keeper Chris Rackley came in to make a fluent 17 not out. Purley finished their 52 overs on 236 for 7, Alan Schofield carrying his bat making 88 not out.
Excellent new ball bowling from Caleb Maycock and Andy Wheeler saw Barnes Wild Geese reduced to 18 for 3 early on. Number 3 batsman Rao was the main contributor of the visitors innings making an excellent 48. Purley came so close to picking up the victory and therefore 25 points, the last wicket partnership of Foulds and Shaw saw out the last 2 overs to ensure the match ended in a draw.
