Purley on Thames Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Datchet 2nds on Sat 31 May 2008 at 1:30pm
Purley on Thames Cricket Club Won By 83 runs
Purley picked up a maximum 25 points on Saturday to lift themselves up to fourth in Division 4B of the Thames Valley League.
Datchet won the toss and elected to field first on a damp looking wicket. This proved to be a good decision as Purley lost two quick wickets, Purley were 14 for 2 off 5 overs. A 3rd wicket partnership of 80 between Patrick Allen and Lance Ruxton put Purley into a strong position before Ruxton fell for 43. 2 more quick wickets fell before Caleb Maycock came to the crease. A sixth wicket partnership of 73 between Maycock and Allen put Purley into a strong position. Maycock was eventually out for a brutal 53, opener Patrick Allen soon followed for a well made 76. A late order flourish from Chris Rackley (24 not out) and Paresh Patel (27 not out) saw Purley finish on 246 for 8 off 51 overs.
The Datchet reply started well, openers Edward and Doddington put on 58 for 1st wicket. Jalil Sear entered the attack and quickly took 2 wickets. Sustained pressure from Andy Wheeler and Paresh Patel meant that Datchet never looked like threatening the Purley total. Important wickets from left arm spinner Mark Nash and Caleb Maycock saw Purley win the game with 2 balls to spare.
