Maidenhead & Bray 2nds v Purley on Thames Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 05 Jul 2008 at 1:30pm
Match was Drawn
Purley on Thames widened the gap between themselves and 3rd place with a maximum point draw at Maidenhead & Bray on Saturday.
On a dry looking pitch Purley skipper Alan Schofield lost the toss (What a surprise!!!) and Maidenhead chose to bowl first. This decision backfired with Purley openers Patrick Allen and Kevin Denton registering a century partnership. All of Purleys top 4 batsman passed 50 with Patrick Allen top scoring with 111, the first century by a Purley player in the Thames Valley League. Purley eventually declared after 48 overs at 310 for 3, the last ball of the innings sent into a neighbouring garden for 6 by Mark Nash who finished 19 not out.
Purley made a bright start with the ball, opening bowlers Lance Harris and Andy Wheeler both picking up an early wicket with the short ball. Maidenhead and Bray then put together a few useful partnerships to keep the game interesting. Purley ended up just needing 1 wicket with 3 balls to go but the number 11 held firm. There were good bowling performances from Andy Wheeler (4-84), Caleb Maycock (2-24), Farrukh Sultan (1-32) and also David Lincoln (1-25) who picked a wicket with his first ball for the Saturday 1st team.
Purley travel to bottom placed Chiswick & Latymer next week, a few sessions of catching practice would be advisable before then.
