Match report 3rd place Odiham and Greywell were the visitors to the Goosecroft in a massive match at the top of the Division 4B table. A much changed Potters side took the field with the affects of holidays and injuries taking its toll.
Potters skipper Allen won the toss (first time for a long time!) and chose to bat, the game was reduced to 88 overs following rain at the start of play. Nick was promoted from number 11 to open the innings with Allen and it nearly went wrong first ball when a shout of YES quickly followed by NO caused massive confusion. Allen was caught one handed by Odiham's overseas star, Chris and Nick batted well to put on a decent partnership before Nick was caught on the cover boundary. A miny collapse followed before Mike Schofield contributed 30 excellent runs in his first outing of the season. Chris played outstandingly well to register his first Saturday 1st XI fifty, eventually out for 56. We ended up being bowled out for 162 off 45 overs.
The Potters were aware that we were probably 20ish runs short of a good target but if we could bowl well then we could still pull it off.
We started well with Caleb and Nick keeping the runs down. The first 4 wickets that fell for Odiham were all spread between the 4 bowlers, Caleb, Nick, Dom and Patrick. The key wicket of Aussie Shorthouse was got by a tactically bowled long hop from the skipper, knowing that he would hit the ball to Mike on the boundary! A tight finish came about with Odiham's Voisey batting well. The equation was 13 runs required from 4 overs with 3 wickets in hand. Nick then removed Voisey, Caleb removed there number 10 and then Nick got the final wicket caught by the skipper at cover.
A great 25 point win for the Potters, we fielded really well and kept our focus. Next week we have Reading 3's who are tied 3rd in the division. Lets hope for the same kind of result!
