Match report On a horrible day and a not much better wicket we travelled to Aldermaston CC, the scene of a poor result two years previous hoping the outcome would be different. Barry Carter won the toss (for a change) and elected to field on the basis of the wicket. Jordan Rowland and Vivek Pandey (making his debut) opened the bowling, they took time to settle but were close on numerous times to getting an edge. Jordan finally struck to remove Aldermaston skipper Mike Palfrey which gave us hope. Aldermaston put their foot down on the throttle to move quickly along but it was young Sam Woodhouse who restricted their runs at the end with an excellent display of spin bowling to end with figures of 4 for 24 off 6 overs; he was assisted by some great wicket keeping by Andrew Clarke who took three stumpings. Aldermaston finished on 166 for 7 off 35 overs, a score that was well within reach.
Purley got off to a slow start and quickly lost openers Luke Flory (making his senior debut), bowled by a ball that kept low and then vice captain Pete Rackley to a ball that popped where he edged it to slip. The match gradually slipped away and we were heading to a big defeat until "young" Jeff Hinds came to the crease where he remained for the rest of the innings to finish on 35 not out. Jordan Rowland came in and gave it a few cultured whacks and he ended on 15 not out as Purley reached a score of 95 for 6 off 35 overs where a tenuous draw was claimed by a desparate Purley on Thames captain!
