Match report Purley 2nds gained a creditable winning draw away at Farnham Common,after losing the toss and being asked to bat on a damp wicket and outfield.With a couple of team changes the 2nds had all 3 Clarke boys playing together in the TVL for the first time with Robert making his debut.Purley struggled to score quickly throughout their innings with Farnham bowling tight lines and the outfield made it difficult.Purley were indebted to a fine 51 from George Wheeler who held the innings together,a patient 18 from Steve Purser and an excellent 39 towards the end of the innings from Andrew Clarke.An important 9th wicket stand of 27 between Andrew Clarke and younger brother George Clarke proved cruical,with George showing us how much his batting has improved scoring 11 n/o.A brillant opening bowling spell from Robbie Jeffery and Andrew Bailey reduced Farnham to 36 for 5,with George Wheeler and Barry Carter contiuning the good work,Farham were struggling on 68 for 7.Unfortunately for Purley, Farnham shut up shop and Purley were unable to break the 8th wicket stand of 50,to leave Farnham on 118 for 7 after 48 overs.When a team only scores 163 in the first innings you don't normally expect to finish the game on top,although Purley were disappointed not to force a win they can be pleased with the fight back in the field,but 4 dropped catches did not help them.
