Match report A tough last game of the season against the champions elect, Welford Park. After last week's defeat we dropped to 3rd in the league after being in the top 2 for most of the season. This was a must-win game to stand a chance of promotion. The skipper won the toss and chose to bat. 15 year old Robert Clarke (16) opened with the skipper and looked in good form before mishitting a full toss. 14 year old James Denton was unlucky to drag one on to his stumps and we were 24-2. Pahi (26) came in and batted sensibly and put on a partnership of 57 before the skipper was bowled for 31 just before the drinks break. We then lost 4 wickets and only had 110. Nufail came in at 9 and hit 6 fours in a quick-fire 25 to take us to 145. It was never going to be enough, unless we took early wickets. The skipper took a good catch behind off Jeff, and Nufail took a good catch off Rob Holman to remove their openers. However, we bowled too many full tosses and 4-balls, and they reached 147-2 in the 26th over. They only needed 5 points to be champions, so they fully deserved it after being top of the table all season. We have probably finished 3rd or 4th, which is a massive achievement still. I am very proud of all the players that have played for 3rds this season, especially all the youngsters, who have shown tremendous ability and attitude, and bodes well for the future of the club.
