Match report Purley on Thames Saturday 2nd XI battled to a draw against Wokingham 3 on a sunny afternoon at the Goosecroft. Wokingham won the toss and elected to field but were soon in trouble at 54 for 4 after two wickets from Alex Clough, one from Dave Lincoln and a smart piece of fielding from Steve Purser that resulted in the run out of Wokingham skipper Windy David. A fifth wicket stand was only broken at 164 when Craig Montana pulled a hamstring and had to retire hurt. Purley kept plugging away and were finally rewarded with 8 wickets before Wokingham declared on 263 for 8 off 48 overs. Purley started the run chase well but kept losing wickets at regular intervals. A good innings of 27 by Mazhar Farooq was ended by a catch behind and that left Purley on 69 for 4. A fine sixth wicket partnership of 43 by Andrew Clarke and Dave Lincoln saw Purley to within six overs of a draw but Dave was bowled for 16 and when Alex Clough skied a catch to mid wicket it once again looked in the balance but youngsters Andrew Clarke, 41 not out and Sam Woodhouse 7 not out saw Purley to 177 for 8 off 52 overs to gain eight points and deprive Wokingham of 11.
