Match report The Purley skipper won an incredible fourth toss in a row and elected to bat on a good looking track. Peter Rackley and Ashley Hillier were in great form and quickly moved the score past 50 off just 12 overs before Ashley was well caught for 27. Kieran Barrett was making his first Sunday appearance of the season and looked good as made his way to an unbeaten 69. Pete Rackley was second out for 59 with the score on 107. George Wheeler had a swashbuckling innings of 32 which included an enormous six back over the bowler's head but he went for one too many big shots and was stumped for 32. Purley finished on a challenging score of 221 for 4 from their 40 overs. Blewbury and Upton were soon in trouble as they lost two batsmen for only 21 runs thanks to a fine low catch by the chest of Ashley Hillier and as it turned out a fortuitous LBW decision off the bowling of George Wheeler. A brilliant piece of fielding by the chairman, Jeff Hinds, saw the run out of Steve Saunders and when Barry Carter assisted in the run out of the other opener it looked good for Purley as Blewbury had slumped to 55 for 4. A spirited 30 from the Blewbury skipper Jamie Fraser lifted their spirits but when the wizardry of George Clarke bamboozled him he was bowled and it looked like game over. A cameo innings from Waggy and Shearer saw them onto 137 but when Pete Rackley held onto a catch to dismiss Waggy off the bowling of George Wheeler it was all over and Blewbury & Upton were all out for 139 and Purley on Thames Sunday XI had maintained their unbeaten record.
