Match report On a sunny and hot day Purley on Thames entertained Theale & Tilehurst in the annual August Bank Holiday friendly. Theale & Tilehurst won the toss and elected to bat. T&T moved along steadily and had reached 43 when Patrick Allen finally broke through to remove Ahmed for 17. Patrick then had dangerman Andy Shotter LBW for 9 and he made it three when Barry Carter caught Hamed Ali at mid on for 6 to reduce them to 76 for 3. Mazhar Farooq had Imran Malik well caught at short cover by Robbie Jeffery for 36. A 40 run partnership between James White and Manoj was ended when James gloved a half tracker from Robert Clarke to be caught behind by brother Andrew for 26. A cameo innings of 39 from Michael Holder was ended in the 43rd over and T&T were all out for 186. Purley skipper sent out George Wheeler and Barry Carter to open and after surviving the first few overs Barry was out bowled off his elbow and then two balls later Andrew Clarke was out bowled by Michael Holder to leave Purley 31 for 2. Paul Reber became Michael's third bowled victim when he was out for 6 and when the experienced Brian Cooper had youngster LBW Purley had slumped to 80 for 4. A few lusty blows from Robert Clarke and George Wheeler took the score past 100 and George to his 50. Robert was finally out for 31 with the score on 134. George Wheeler went to his 100 with a crisp shot that deflected off the stumps and went to the long off boundary. George ended on 119 not out as Purley ran out 5 wicket winners with 18 overs to spare. Well played everyone!
