Purley on Thames CC Saturday 3rd XI v Stratfield Turgis 2 on Sat 20 Jul 2013 at 1330
Purley on Thames CC Won by 3 wickets
Match report
Top of the table clash lived up to its billing on a very hot and humid day. The skipper lost the toss and it was no surprise they chose to bat. We started superbly and had them 9-3, with Harry bowling the opener and Rob Holman the other two from 1st slip and gully catches by Kevin and Kirwin. A partnership was building before the skipper took a catch behind for Rob's 3rd wicket. Millward was looking dangerous before being caught smartly at short cover by Kevin off Nufail's bowling. We continued to bowl well with George and Pahi picking a wicket up each clean bowled. Nufail then took his second with another gully catch from Kirwin. James Denton then got the ninth wicket thanks to a good catch from Thomas Axson. We couldn't find the final wicket but had kept them to 153-9. The Dentons opened again but we lost James for 7 with the score on 23. George went first ball caught behind and Pahi was out for 4. We were 35-3 before Kevin and Kirwin steadied us and put together an excellent partnership of 58 from 16 overs. Van der linde then picked up his 4th wicket, bowling Kevin for an excellent 61. Nufail came in and struck some superb blows to put us back in a strong position. Kirwin then fell for 22 with the score on 126 with 8 overs left. When Nufail was bowled for 34 the score was 136 with 6 overs left and the skipper went to the crease to join his son James. However, the skipper fell 2 balls later and we were 138-7. It was now getting very tense and quite fractious out in the middle, especially as we had a 15year old and a 17year old at the crease facing some vocal opponents. However, James hit a superb cover drive for 4, then a 3 and a single to push us within 8 of the target. Harry was facing and hit 2 fantastic shots for 4 to win the game for us in the 42nd over. A superb win for the boys to keep us on top of the division.
