Match report Purley on Thames visited Cuxham for the first time. The ground was very picturesque set in the South Oxfordshire countryside. Purley won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket that was damp in places. The decision seemed to be a bad one as we slipped to 9 for 2 after we lost both Pete Rackley (2) and John Clarke (3). Pahi and Chris Rackley struggled to get the ball away with Pahi slicing several over the slips before he was out LBW for 14. Rod Roach fell foul to a skidder and when Chris was out for 12 we were struggling on 42 for 5. Nufail hit a six and a four on his way to a top score of 19, George Wheeler came in at 9 and hit a valuable 15 and when skipper Barry Carter was last out for 8 we had set what looked like an easy target of 98 to win. George Wheeler got the breakthrough when he bowled Colin Stokes for 6 but a 31 run second wicket partnership seemed to settle Cuxham. The introduction of Chris Rackley changed all that as he returned career best figures of 5 for 21 off 6 overs to give us some hope but a couple of streaky fours saw Cuxham home by three wickets with an over to go. A really sporting contest which was ended by a drink at the local pub.
