Match report The first game of the new season for Purley 3rds, and after winning Division 4 last season, our first game in Division 3. As the Thames Valley League start next week, we had the honour of playing at our own ground, and the visitors were the 2012 Champions of Division 4, Welford Park. After all the rain two days previous the pitch and ground was in a superb condition. On a lovely sunny day it was difficult to decide whether to bat or bowl first. Fortunately the Welford Park skipper called correctly and chose to field. Pete (10) and 17 year old George Clarke went out to open, and played very well in an opening stand of 29, before Pete was out. Khan fell quickly, before a superb 3rd wicket partnership of 79 between Pahi (36) and George, before Pahi was bowled. George played some lovely on drives on his way to his maiden 50. When he was out for 63 with the score on 128 a few quick wickets fell. Kirwin (12) and the skipper (14) kept the scoreboard ticking before Harry (11) and Rob (2no) ensured we got maximum batting points by reaching 175. A supberb tea was taken before we set about defending 175. Khan and Harry bowled superbly and we took some great catches. Only one of their batsmen reached double figures, and could not handle our attack. Khan bowled 10 overs and took 6-22. Harry bowled 7 overs and took 3-5. George took two catches and James Denton a fine catch off Rob Holman to take the last wicket, and we had bowled them out for 41 in the 21st over. A fantastic team effort to win the game by 134 runs and maximum points.
