Match report Purley travelled to Thatcham for this weeks TVL fixture. Purley won the toss and batted first, they soon found themselves in big trouble at 9-3 against a opening attack who found a lot of early swing. The skipper Paul Reber looked calm at the crease and started to rebuild the innings with the help of Patrick Allen and then Rahu Thava. Reber and Thava started to build a good partnership and Reber got to his half century and the score moved passed 100 for the loss of 4 wickets. Just as purley looked like getting on top Reber lost his composure and hit one straight to mid on to be dismissed for 57. This was a shocking bit of decision making from the skipper and an inexcusable mistake from an experienced player who really should know better. Reber's error turned the innings back in Thatcham's favour and Thava departed shortly after for 23. Decent contributions from Robbie Jeffrey, George Clarke and Andrew Clarke saw Purley up to 167 all out. Once again we were unable to bat out our overs and ended up 30 odd runs short of where we need to be.

Purley took the old ball in the second innings and found an early wicket to get them started. Thatcham's top order then settled into the innings and started to make the necessary contributions. The game looked gone for the potters with Thatcham only needing about 20 to win with 6 wickets remaining until Allen and Thava bowled with great control and skill to bring us 4 wickets for the loss of just 6 runs. Unfortunately the potters couldn't find the last two wickets and lost the game by two wickets. Patrick Allen bowled superbly, taking 3-20 from his 12 overs.
It was an up and down game for us and we managed 10 points to move us out of the relegation zone. The team is starting to show some real promise and a little more application and consistency will see us to some good results over the next few weeks.
