Age groups

Children aged 5-8 - All Stars is the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) programme introducing children to cricket in a fun and exciting way. We run All Stars as an 8-week course on Tuesdays 6.30-7.30pm starting in May. Registration is through the ECB and opens in March 2025.

Junior - U9, U11, U13, U15  - mixed teams open to girls and boys

Girls - U9, U11, U13 - U9/U11 softball and U11/U13/U15 hardball

U9, U11, U13 and U15 girls are also eligible to train and play matches with the respective mixed teams (as well as the lower age group, for example an U13 girl can play in the U11 mixed team). Please use the membership form to tell us if you’d like to apply to both mixed and girls teams when signing up so we can advise on available spaces.

U15 girls are eligible to join Purley Eagles, our women’s soft ball cricket team. This is a development team, so is especially open to beginners.

Kit

Mixed U9s - U9s players require only a bat (plastic is fine) and an abdominal guard (box / adbo guard) in order to train. We can supply a bat for any trial sessions, but you must provide your player with an abdominal guard (they’re about £3). Cricket whites (for the mixed team)/ girls’ playing shirt and abdo guards are needed for matches - see Matches section.

Mixed U11, U13, U15 - players require a full set of pads, helmet, abdominal protector (box) and a bat. These need to be named / marked to avoid confusion at training. It is expected that players regularly selected to represent Purley in league matches will require a Purley on Thames player’s top, available from Serious Cricket (or our Preloved Shop if stock is available).

Girls - players require a bat (plastic is fine for softball for U9/U11) and a female abdominal guard (box / adbo guard) in order to train. We can supply a bat for any trial sessions. A wooden bat is required for hardball training and matches along with protective equipment (helmet, gloves, pads). Please ask the coach for advice before purchasing equipment.

Preloved Shop - we run our own shop containing preloved cricket kit to help you keep costs down. Clean kit in playing condition is donated by current and former players for sale by the Preloved Shop and your purchases help to support the club with valuable funds. Please check the webpage for stock and we can bring it to the required training session.

Match kit

Junior mixed teams wear cricket whites for matches including a white match shirt with Purley logo. These club shirts are purchased from our club shop at Serious Sport, or can sometimes be obtained through the club’s Preloved Shop depending on stock levels.

Girls’ teams wear red match shirts, available from Sumo Sam, and black shorts/leggings/cricket trousers for matches.

Match fees

All players pay a match fee each time they play a league match. This contributes to the cost of entering leagues, the upkeep of the grounds and the general running of the club.

Coaches, managers and assistants

Our junior teams are run by volunteers. Parents and senior club players are supported by the club to become ECB-qualified coaches and to develop their skills through additional workshops supplied by Berkshire Cricket Foundation. The Volunteers webpage has details of the package of support we offer to all our parent/player coaches. If you’d like to become a coach, please contact Steve Musson, Junior Cricket Coordinator, for more information.

You can also support your child’s team by being a team manager (helping the coach organise matches, friendlies, availabilities) or helping on match days (refreshments, first aid if you’re qualified, scoring, umpiring). The ECB offers a free online scoring course.

Safeguarding

The protection and support of young people in cricket is of paramount importance to Purley on Thames CC. The Club has adopted the ECB Child Protection Policy 'Safe Hands - Welfare of Young People in Cricket'.

The Club has appointed Helen Hill (07919 114267 - helen_bailey80@hotmail.com
) as our Club Safeguarding Officer. If you have any concerns about child safety, please contact Helen.
