Match report REBER REVELS AS POTTERS REACH REGIONAL FINAL

Sensational skippe Paul Reber worked tirelessly through the week to overcome selection nightmares before leading Purley to a historic victory and the Regional Final of the National Village Cup.
The usually excellent tosser Paul Reber was unsuccessful in his quest to bowl first as the opposition captain correctly. Purley's innings got off to a disastrous start as prolific Patrick Allen fell early. Reber strolled majestically to the crease, like a warrior heading in to battle, ready to separate the men from the boys. Purley built their innings around Paul Rebers solid and stylish 35, which included 4 boundaries including the sweetest late cut you could wish to see (Purley spectator Alan Schofield commented, "That's so Paul Reber"). Useful contributions also came from Nalin Pai (28) and Dan Clark (76) as the Potters reached 196-6 off their alloted 40 overs.
During the tea interval, Purley's leader Paul Reber contemplated his teams performance while tucking into a tasy piece of battenburg. He observed, "it was a good effort on a difficult track, but we'd have hoped for another 20 runs".
Purley's young shaver, fuelled by a sugar free Red Bull 60ml shot (retail price £1.79, available from all good newsagents) was like a whippet behind the stumps taking 4 catches with a return of 60 fantasy league points and powering Charlotte Bishops team "Poetry in Motion" up the league table. This left the visitors reeling on 27-4. The visitors problems worsened, as their hopes of victory sunk like the Titanic, after hitting the iceberg that was Rebers flawless and inventive captaincy. Soon the ice melted, as a downpour descended on the Fosters Top Goosecroft. With a renewed impetus, Netherne resumed on 61-6 as Flanagan and Meyer weathered the storm and built a useful partnership aided by some typical lapses of Purley concentration, with Paul Reber finding himself struggling to reach the ground and groping at thin air. Meyer and Flanagan propelled the visitors to 131-6 and Purley fan Alan Schofield was heard to say, "It's squeeky bum time at the Goosecroft". Rebers rage grew with every boundary that his side conceded, so he looked around the field for an inspirational bowling option. Mark Nash, polishing off his 65th Fosters Top of the weeked, seemed the only choice. This was genius. Along with Secret Cyril Cox (2-27), Nash propelled the Potters over the winning line, with 2-23 and a champagne moment run out to finally sink the Netherne ship as Purleys fielders partied like it was 1999.
Inspired by his recent luck in love, Nick Holman-Measham also showed much improvement on recent efforts, only conceding 6 wides!.
Victorious captain Paul Reber emerged from the huddle of victory to say, "This is a day that will live in infamy".
