Match report Purley visited Reading for their latest TVL fixture and it turned out to be a interesting day. We lost the toss and were put into bat on a pitch that was dry at one end and very damp the other. The damp proved an issue for us, skipper Allen was out caught 3rd ball of the 1st over for 0 after the ball popped. Schofield fell the same way with the score on 9. Reber (74) and Clark (55) then put on 124 for the 3rd wicket. We accelerated well with Raj scoring a quick 27 but wickets kept falling and we ended 203 all out in the 52nd over.
The Reading reply started very, very quickly. The first 14 overs went for 101, very average bowling was served up on a wicket that didn't seem to suit us to start with. The skipper entered the attack and slowed things down a bit, he picked up 2 wickets before the heavens opened with the score 142 for 2 after 26.3 overs. A delay of just over an hour commenced before we returned to the field, the game changed with the run out (by Reber) of their captain Cowan for 56. Then Caleb and Nick returned to the attack and we ran through them leaving them 198 for 9 from their 48 overs.
Great effort to turn things around but lessons need to be learned. Line and length works on any pitch fast or slow! Lets get things right next week when we are back at the Goosecroft against Hurst.
