Match report A top of the table clash in Division 4B between Purley on Thames and Aldershot culminated into one of the tightest games in the clubs history.
Aldershot won the toss and elected to bat first on a slightly tacky looking wicket. Purley took an early wicket dismissing the dangerous Aldershot skipper Baig. Aldershot managed to score quite freely punishing the short balls but Purley came back well and seamers Holman, C Maycock and Chatwin bowled impressively. Spinner Nash removed the dangerous overseas star Sinha caught in the deep and the Aldershot innings ended with another Nash victim leaving the Shots all out for 125 in the 44th over.
After a very nice tea Purley prepared for the chase, it didn't go well. Opening bowlers Sinha and Arif bowled excellently to leave the Potters reeling at 22 for 4. Reebs and Schoers steadied the ship but were both removed by left arm spinner Baig after a 30 partnership. Good contributions from Nash and Barclay brought Purley closer to the target, but constant wickets always kept Aldershot in charge. It all came down to the last wicket pair of Chatwin and Holman to see Purley home. Chatwin maintained his impressive batting form this season, top scoring with 25 not out. Unfortunately the pace of Sinha was too much for us in the end bowling Holman to seal a 1 run victory for the visitors.
The 1st defeat of the season was disappointing but credit goes to the team for fighting all the way. It's Bracknell away next week, lets bounce back in style!
