Match report Eversley 2's were the visitors to the Goosecroft on Saturday and early on it seemed as though there would be no play at all with short, sharp showers causing havoc. At 2:15pm we got play started with the match being reduced to 80 overs. Purley won the toss and elected to bowl first on a wet looking track. We started well with Nick picking up an early wicket. Unfortunately the standards set in the field recently in matches against Odiham and Reading were not reproduced, 2 easy catches were shelled and some more sloppy fielding cost us dearly. Some good bowling from the spinners kept the score down to 168 for 8 from their 42 overs.
After tea Purley began their chase of 168 knowing a win would guarantee promotion and almost certainly the Division 4B title.
A positive start was made before the skipper was cleaned up after another poor shot! Rackers went 2nd ball to leave the Potters struggling. More regular wickets fell with Dan Clark (38), Will (24) and Nasher (13) the only batters looking really comfortable at the crease. Another tight finish seemed to be on the cards with Nick coming in at number 11 hitting his first ball for 4. Next ball it was all over though with the Potters ending up 10 runs short.
We picked up 7 points, pretty poor considering all the effort we went too. These points did however secure us promotion to Division 3A. Next week we travel to local rivals Theale and Tilehurst knowing any sort of victory will secure us the title.
