Theale and Tilehurst v Purley on Thames CC Saturday 1st XI on Sat 03 Sep 2011 at 1230
Purley on Thames CC Won by 7 wickets
Match report
The Potters travelled to local rivals Theale and Tilehurst for the final game of the TVL season knowing win the game would mean WIN the League. On a dry and dusty looking track we lost the toss and were asked to bowl first, not a problem as we were going to do that anyway!
We started well with Nick picking up a wicket early on. We picked up another quick wicket with Caleb trapping the dangerous Wigmore LBW. Despite the early wickets Theale continued to pick up runs regularly with a 4 ball on offer at least once an over. The dangerous Sunil Kumar went passed his 50 quickly and looked set to register a large score. Dom picked up a wicket with his 1st ball and then bowled Jamil after roughing him up. At drinks Theale were around 140 for 4, it looked like a minimum of 220. Purley then dramatically improved, the captain removed Sunil with a sharp turning off break and then when he called on the Bracknell destroyer Dan 'Village' Clark the game changed. Allen and Clark ripped through the rest of the order with skillful flight and some intelligent leg side bowling in Dan's case! Theale were bowled out for 173 in the 42nd over.
The Purley reply started badly with the leg spinner picking up 2 quick wickets and the off spinner bowling Clarky. This brought Alan and Reebs to the crease and they combined excellently. Both looked fluent picking off boundaries at will. We eventually knocked off the target for 3 wickets down in the 32nd over and picked up the needed 20 points to clinch the Division 4B title.
Great effort by all for this season, we have been top from the start of the season and despite a little blip we bounced back well with some excellent performances. Thanks to all the players, my dad for scoring and Dave for umpiring this season.
Look forward to Division 3A next year!
