Match report Excellent all round team performance earned the 2nds their 8th win of the season,
7th batting second after the captain lost the toss again,to secure the 2nds highest ever league position of 5th in division 5a.Sonning won the toss and batted first on the purley road,but a superb bowling display from Purley restricted Sonning to 184 all out in 47.1 overs.Two fine spells from Jordan Seward earned him 3 wickets,backed up by some tight bowling from Rod Dethridge,
but the star performance went to Khan Azad who finished the Sonning innings with a brillant Hat trick to make it 4 wickets for the innings.Purley's reply started well with Gautham Kamath and Peter Rackley putting on 94 for the 1st wicket,before skipper Rackley fell for 40.After putting 48 for the 2nd wicket both Kamath(55) and Kevin Denton(28) fell on 142,with Raj out for 0 soon after
another Purley collapse was on the cards.A quick fire 21 from Gavin Raw took Purley close to victory,Khan was run out for 5, before Rod Dethridge and Jamie Elliot took the 2nds to victory.A great win and a great season for the 2nds with a 5th place finish,with some fine performances on the way,especially pleasing to see some many of our juniors performing so well at this standard of cricket.Thanks to Steve Annetts and Duncan Groves for umpiring and thanks for the help given to me in my first season of captaining the 2nds.
