Match report
A poor batting performance, along with giving away too many extras led to this defeat. Waltham skipper won the toss and elected to bat. When we were not bowling wides or no balls we bowled quite tightly and were keeping the score down. The fielding was excellent with Jack Mundell involved in two run outs, and Khan Azad with a direct hit the other one. There were two excellent catches, one from young Robert Clarke, and a stunning one-handed catch from Callum. Barry Carter was the pick of our bowlers with an opening spell of 2-19 from 10 overs. Callum Wood also bowled well with 2-29 from his 7 overs. They finished with 185-8 from 45 overs and we felt that it was 30 runs more than they should have got, but a gettable score. However, once Khan (3) and Pahi (6) had departed early we were under pressure. Steve Dyer (20) was out with the score on 47-3, and a good partnership looked like forming between Kirwin (44) and Pat (15). However, at 91 Pat was out LBW, and we then collapsed to 116 all out. Whilst I will not take anything away from a great performance from the lad, but a 12 year old on their side returned figures of 3-10 from his 5 overs! This highlighted our poor batting performance, and was even more disappointing as we have been strong most of the season in this area. We are now halfway through the season and have won 5 out of 9, so it is pleasing, but hope we can improve on that for the second half of the season to try and achieve at least a top 4 position.
