Match report
Last game of the season saw us fight for a losing draw. With WSL safe in runners-up spot and not able to catch the leaders and us safe in 3rd or 4th spot, it was not a decisive game, and was played with that in mind. I won the toss and put them in on what looked a good batting track but decided we would be better to chase today. Harry was the pick of our bowlers with 4-60 off 12 overs. Good catches from Pat and young Rob Haggis making his debut capped a good fielding and bowling performance considering we only had 10 men for the first 40 minutes and at one stage they looked like getting 250+. We started off the chase very slowly and were 66-2 off 22 overs. We didn't look in trouble but were not scoring regularly as they produced some accurate bowling. I got to 52 before being caught with the score on 94. This brought young Rob Haggis to the crease and he and Kirwin batted for the last 15 overs and took the score to 166. Kirwin batted well for his 41no and Rob did superb for his 22no. This gave us 9 points and meant we finished in 4th place. It was my aim at the start of the season to try and finish in the top 4, and we achieved that so it has been a very successful season. I have really enjoyed my first season as Sat 3rds Captain and it has been great to "blood" so many youngsters into adult cricket, and the "oldies (you know who you are!)" have given me valuable advice and assistance throughout the season. I would like to thank all the players and parents who have played and supported the team this year, and my thanks to Becky for being our regular scorer, and "cookie and sweets provider". I look forward to next season (provided re-elected?) with great promise of another successful one.
