Purley on Thames CC Won by 8 runs
Match report
The Kites made it five wins out of five with a hard fought victory against Henley.
Captain Charlie Wheeler lost the toss and was asked to bat first in dewey conditions. As such batting was difficult but thanks to some great hitting and fantastic running we got to a respectable total of 262 for 3. All batsmen contributed manfully but some boundaries from Rushton, Harlowe, Jackson and Fifield really pushed the score along, the main positive was the way we protected our wicket against some very good bowling.
In the field is where the match was won, I was proud of each and everyone one of them today. The fielding was impeccable, we held on to all our catches (Raymond, Close, Honeyman x 2 and Jackson) and thanks to some quick thinking and accurate throwing from Rushton we picked up 2 vital run outs.
The bowling was also superb; a great return to form for Danbury saw him take 2 wickets with the familiar sight of cartwheeling stumps that was a feature of last year. Aside from that everyone contributed with the ball with few wides and minimal no balls. And special mention to Captain Wheeler who bowled 2 sensational overs at the end under great pressure taking a vital wicket and conceding just 2 runs.
A fantastic performance that sees us go to the top of the league. Once again a big thank you to all the parents for bringing the players over to Henley especially given the early start.
