Foster Wheeler v Purley on Thames CC Midweek on Wed 25 May 2011 at 6pm
Purley on Thames CC Won by 108 runs
Match report
For the 3rd week in a row Purley mid-week win again against what looked on paper a strong foster wheeler side.
Gary Brooker ( the captain ) won the toss and elected to bat, he sent in the new man Khan Ahzad with Ramesh with strict instructions to stay there for an over or so, they duly obliged and weathered the storm of very quick and acurate bowling from patel and vidlar.
So much so that after 4 overs purley had only managed to score 25 runs. Growing concerns on the bench led to some shouts of hit out from the captain to his merry men, so in sheer fright the the fishing rods came out and it soon turned to 86 from 9 overs with khan still there at the crease .
Losing Pat Allen cheap for 9 ( village stuff ) and Julian Fernando for 6, Kieran Barrett batted well with Callum Wood and was eventually joined by the
no messing around Alex Clough who smashed a quite simply great 21 from 8 balls after a stiff word from his skipper to go out there and get a few.
So purley set about there batting and the sensational choice from the captain to start with Alex Clough paid dividends from the off as he collected an early wicket from just 4 balls, the adrenalin and spirit started to pump through the whole team and it soon led to a collapse from foster wheeler losing 4 wickets for just 9 runs. There was so much noise out there it was hard for foster wheeler to concentrate and it was backed up with some first class fielding after the skipper had a team talk in which he insisted there was to be no football played ( ie stopping the ball with your feet ) so it was left for cyril cox to bowl a couple of overs and get a couple of wickets with some good stuff until webber came in for foster wheeler and looked a real good batsmen .
Barry Carter and Cyril Cox were not getting anywhere with him as he looked comfortable at the crease so fearing a fight back the skipper never doubting his ability decided to come on and duly cleared this dangerously looking batsmen up .
For this reason after careful thought the man of the match goes to gary brooker the skipper (AGAIN)
thanks to all the lads and of course becky whom without would make our job much harder (thanks becky )
