Match report
MIDWEEK CAPTAIN IN QUIT STORM
Controversy surrounds the mid week team as the skipper offers his
resignation!
After a weeks holiday down on the south coast of England (on the clubs orders to rest ?) the midweek skipper returned to duties at the Ibis ground to take on a strong Cardkey team.
The first thing that went wrong was we soon realised we were playing on an artificial pitch ( not what were used to having the luxury of some superb wickets prepared by the chaiman )
The skipper (first) lost the toss for the first time (that was the second thing that went wrong) and when Alex Clough failed to appear (the third thing that went wrong) and we hadnt even started, the skipper then lost the plot! .
The rest rest they say is history with some very poor fielding by all except the skipper who took a real fast catch at mid-on and another at slip.
So purley went in to bat and it was the most diabolical batting display of the seaon so far giving away wickets left right and hockum (including a REAL shoddy display from Purleys no 1 batsman pat allen (VERGING ON "VILLAGE" STUFF).
The only resistance from the bat came from the youth of Callum Wood, Andrew
Clarke and Kieron Barrett and of course the skipper who tried his heart out to get the win and went for a huge 6 after scoring 5 only to be caught in the covers .
So it erupted after the game with words in the changing rooms where the skipper made his feelings known to all (whats said in the changing rooms will stay in the changing rooms!) and after this the skipper went for a shower only to be greeted with crys from the changing rooms of brooker out schofield in brooker out schofield in i can only imagine this was on the back of a win by alan schofield last week.
The skipper totally dejected phoned the chaiman to offer his resignation which was refused. The skipper then sent out texts to all concerened offering his resignation and was texted by all to stay on - basically the dreaded vote of
confidance!
The skipper has had time to reflect and after chewing it over with his family has decided to STAY ON with promises to wield the axe next week.
Lady of the match goes to Becky Clarke for doing the score book as it
was the only thing done right all night !!!!!!!
