Match report After the torrential rain of the previous day the match went ahead but on the newly laid artificial wicket at Bramshill police college. I won the toss and decided to bat first, a decision that at first seemed to be the wrong one as Purley slumped to 23 for 2. The introduction of George Wheeler was the turning point as he and Pete Rackley put on an unbeaten stand of 210 for the third wicket to take us to a total of 234 for 2 off 40 overs. George played a rather aggressive role and made his way quickly to his maiden ton whilst Pete played a more 'Boycottesque' innings to reach his 50 close to the end of the innings.
The opening bowlers of Jordan Rowland and Robert Clarke quickly found their line and length and Hartley Wintney were soon behind the run rate required. Robert produced great figures to end with 0 for 7 off 6 overs whilst Jordan got the crucial wicket of the Hartley captain. Khan came into the attack and ended up taking 2 for 13 off 7 overs and George Clarke bowled better than he caught to end with 0 for 28 off 7. Sam Woodhouse got the other wicket to fall as Nev finally clung onto a catch at square leg. In my first and possibly last/only season as captain it has gone quite well and thanks are due to my vice-captain Pete, scorer Becky and all the players that played during the 2011 season.
