Match report What can I say! After a great year and a fantastic effort on the night our Under 9s fell 2 runs short against a very good Slough side.

We were asked to bat first on the night after losing the toss and it was immediately apparent that scoring runs was going to be a problem against a good bowling attack. We did manage boundaries from Rushton, Kennedy, Harlowe, Durcan (on debut), Jackson and Fifield, but wickets fell at regular intervals restricting us to a below par score of 245 after our 15 overs.

In reply Slough also struggled against our own very good bowling attack but in the end a few lapses in concentration allowed some extras to be scored and some wides hurt us too but the boys fought hard and made it very difficult for Slough with wickets coming from Raymond x2, 2 great run outs and wicket from Durcan that was well caught by Greenway. Going in to the last 3 overs Sough had gone 4 ahead of our score and it was left to Charlie Wheeler and Freddie Honeyman to take the wickets to win us the game and despite some heroic bowling from both and indeed one wicket as Wheeler got an edge to the wicket keeper it was not to be and Slough crept over the line.

I'm very proud of my team, not just for this performance but for the whole season, they've worked and fought extremely hard and although some were upset at the end they should have nothing to be down about, it really could have gone either way and they are a credit to their parents and to their club.

I hope everyone has had a good year and enjoyed themselves whilst learning some cricket along the way, the whole squad has improved immensely and I wish all the boys (and girls) all the best and hope they play and love cricket for many many years to come.
