Match report
Royal Ascot was the visitors to the Goosecroft for this week’s TVL Division 3A fixture. With wet weather affecting the preparation of the ground all week, unsurprisingly the wicket was a bit damp. For this reason Potters skipper elected to bowl first. From the start it was evident that the wicket was playing a lot better than it looked. The Royal Ascot openers looked confident in their stroke play and some good boundaries were struck. Rahu Thava got the first breakthrough thanks to a great catch from the diving Alex Clough. Unfortunately this catch did not set the standard for catching for the day. The Potters fielders from that point on must have dipped their hands in grease because everything was put down with the exception to Lemar whose excellent fielding this season continued with 2 more catches. Ascots overseas player hit the ball hard and good contributions from the rest of the middle order led them to 261 for 5 from 52 over’s. A big score and a long session in the field!
Purleys reply did not start well, Will Dethridge was bowled in the 2nd over and Chris Rackley was caught at Mid-on a few over’s later. Lemar and the skipper then tried to rebuild the innings; they put 122 for the 3rd wicket with Lemar playing beautifully for 64. The Potters skipper held firm throughout the innings to finish 92 not out (he was dropped about 5 times though!), with the Potters finishing 205 for 6 from 48 over’s to pick up 7 points.
Tough day for the Potters, catching and bowling really did not reach any sort of standard; it will need to improve greatly if they want to start picking up some more positive results. Lets get this sorted for next week when table topping Aldershot come to town!!!
