Match report Purley travelled to Royal Ascot on a very warm and sunny day. It was Shergar Cup day at Ascot so the traffic was heavy - the skipper didn't check the race schedule beforehand resulting in the team arriving only just before 1pm! The skipper won the toss and chose to field. This seemed a bad call with Ascot building their innings sensibly. Wickets were very difficult to get - Cyril Cox making the first breakthrough after a 50+ opening stand. Good bowling from Rahu and Cyril helped restrict Ascot in the middle of the innings but there was little penetration at the end with Caleb injured and Nick struggling after a long opening spell. Royal Ascot ended 244 for 6 with overseas star Esposito scoring 80. Special mention to wicky Andrew Clarke for a excellent display behind the stumps including a stumping and a sharp catch.
After a delicious tea (including ham and cucumber sandwiches), Purley started their reply. It started briskly with the skipper hitting some boundaries. After the skipper went for 18 Amit and Lemar continued the chase. All the batsman scored freely with overs going for 16, 18 and even 20. The Potters were always ahead with Amit batting supremely. In the end we reached the target in the 38th over with Amit 125 not out and, there was also good contributions from Le, Mike, Al and Reebs.
Great win by the boys, a great response after a tough fielding session. Big game next week against table toppers Aldershot, same again please!
