Purley on Thames CC Saturday 2nd XI v Chiswick and Latymer 2 on Sat 18 Aug 2012 at 1230
Purley on Thames CC Won by 72 runs
Match report
A much needed win for Purley on Thames Saturday 2nds against promotion chasing Chiswick & Latimer. The skipper, Kevin Denton won the toss once again and elected to bat on a great track and this exposed the Chiswick & Latimer fielders to the baking hot afternoon that was long overdue.James Measham and Gautham Kamath started well and they put on 43 for the first wicket before Gautham was caught for 30. Star batsman Chris Priestley came to the crease and him and James added a further 67 to take the score to 110 when James holed out for 38. A mini collapse ensued and Purley on Thames quickly found themselves on 151 for 5, it was then that Mridul Mathur began his assault on the wilting Chiswick bowling as he made his way quickly to an impressive 57 not out, he was supported well by 15 year old George Clarke who was eventually out for 15. Purley on Thames finally finished on 242 for 8 off 52 overs. Chiswick were always up on the run rate despite losing their two opening batsmen cheaply to bowling by Alex Clough and Vikram Kamath. Raj Senniappan entered the attack and bowled superbly well from the Tilehurst end as he removed several attack-minded batsmen. George Clarke bowled from the Pangbourne end and was subjected to the majority of the attacking shots but perseverance by the skipper in keeping him on was rewarded with two of the last three wickets to fall as George finished with 2 for 54 from 10 overs, but it was left to Raj to finish the job as he caught and bowled Naveen to joys of celebration from the Purley team to finish with 6 for 33 from 11 overs to claim his baggly blue and steer Purley to a 72 run victory and 25 valuable points.
