Match report Purley on Thames Saturday 2nds guaranteed division 5A survival despite this loss against champions-elect, Sonning 2. Skipper, Kevin Denton won the toss and elected to bat and Purley made a steady start and reached 35 before Khan Azad was caught for 9. Sonning then got on top as they took three Purley wickets for only 9 runs to reduce them to 61 for 4. A brief recovery led by the skipper and Max Baker-Smith was ended when Kevin was bowled for 14 and when Max was needlessly run out for 27 Purley were back in trouble at 103 for 6. A spirited innings of 32 by Dan Barclay was well supported by the lower order as Purley finally reached 173 all out. Purley needed early wickets to stand any hope of a victory but with the limpet like nature of Rayfield and the aggressive hitting of Mark Richards it wasn't to be, the only success was when Richards holed out to wide mid on whilst on 92 off the bowling of Mridul Mathur when the score was on 122. Sonning finally reached their victory target with 10 overs to spare.
