Match report A disappointing end to the league season as Purley on Thames crashed to an eight wicket defeat against promotion chasing Harefield 3. Purley won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like decent wicket. Purley lost both their openers with only 12 on the board and they never really recovered. Robbie Jeffery got a peach of a delivery and was out for 0 and when Robert Clarke was caught behind the decision to bat looked a disaster as we were 42 for 5. A rear guard action from Vikram Kamath and stout defending from the skipper got Purley to within 2 runs of claiming a point, but it wasn't to be as Vikram was LBW for a fine 20 and Purley were all out for 98. The skipper gave a rousing team talk to no effect as Harefield reached the total of 99 for the loss of only two wickets. Robbie Jeffery bowled the opener Ogden and Vikram Kamath had Jordaan caught at mid on for 0. The one point gained on the day was enough to secure survival for the 2s and the decision to bat effectively denied Harefield promotion as a 25 point victory rather than a 20 point one would have meant promotion.
