Match report Purley 3rds were too strong for Embrook 2nds. The prospect of promotion took a step closer following what was a resounding win over the much outgunned Embrook 2nds. Acting Captain – Jeff Hinds - took a calculated gamble by inserting the home team after winning the toss. The decision to do this looked like backfiring when the score reached 81 for 1. However, a devastating spell from George Wheeler in which he took 5 wickets enabled Purley 3rds to bowl out the hapless home team for just 132 in 36 overs. A solid start by the new pairing of Kirwin Roach and Sam Woodhouse gave Purley a solid start and built the foundation for what turned out to be a comfortable 7 wicket victory, the final blow coming from Robert Clarke’s bat and clearing the boundary to end proceedings with a flourish.
