Match report The Purley skipper lost the toss for the second week running and Theale & Tilehurst elected to bat. Harry Bell soon dismissed James Codd as he played on for a duck. T & T rallied before Harry Bell struck again as he bowled Ali for 6. Max Baker-Smith who at 14 was making his debut for Purley Sunday 2nds then had Nori LBW for 1 and T & T were in trouble at 28 for 3. The dismissal of Nori brought to the crease the big-hitting Harry Osborne but young leg-spinner George Clarke soon accounted for him as he took a skier off his own bowling to make it 53 for 4.Andrew Clarke took the first of his three stumpings to take the wicket of Michael Holder for 10 and he completed his hat-trick of stumpings with a fine leg-side take off the bowling of Harry Bell to assist in the dismissal of James Bozarth. Harry Bell and George Clarke finished with impressive figures of 4 for 14 off 8 and 3 for 30 off 12 overs respectively.
In reply Purley soon found themselves in trouble as first team opening bowler Steve Du Cros ripped through their top order to reduce Purley to 9 for 4. Sanjeev Sadhwani and George Wheeler recovered the innings before Sanjeev was caught for 8 and the score was 33 for 5. George Wheeler and Max Baker-Smith batted sensibly and a few lusty blows by George took Purley to within less than 30 needed for victory before Max was caught for a well batted 18 with the score on 91. George Wheeler completed a fantastic 55 which took Purley to the brink of victory but when he holed out to mid-off the victory target of 125 looked a step to far and that was realised as T & T brought back opening bowler Steve Du Cros as the last three wickets fell for 13 runs to leave Purley 9 short on 115 all out.
