Match report The Purley on Thames skipper lost the toss for the eighth time in nine attempts and Bradfield elected to bat first. The Purley opening bowlers of Robert Clarke and Rob Holman kept a tight line and reduced Bradfield to 0 for 1 when Robert Clarke found the edge and the catch was snaffled by Andy Stephens behind the stumps. Robert Clarke only managed three overs before injury forced him out of the attack. Nufail then delivered a ball that bounced ferociously and the batsman gloved the ball to Andy Stephens once again. Bradfield progressed slowly before the Purley skipper Barry Carter produced a good one-handed catch off his own bowling to reduce Bradfield to 52 for 3 after 24 overs. It was then that Alex Howell the other opener unleashed shots that powered him to 120 not out and Bradfield to a score of 179 for 5 off 40 overs, he was caught at deep mid-wicket when on 59 but the Purley fielders momentum carried him over the boundary rope.
Purley began their reply steadily with Shifan and Pete Rackley compiling a patient partnership of 33 before Pete got caught at short mid-wicket for 8. Shifan's frustration finally got the better of him and he went for a big hit which was well caught at mid off and Purley were 37 for 2. A collapse saw Purley slip from a promising position of 83 for 4 to a perilous situation of 89 for 8 but they salvaged something from the game when Sam Woodhouse (11 not out) and Barry Carter (22 not out), which included some fine edges through and over the slips for 4's added an unbroken stand of 39 to leave Purley short by 49 runs on 128 for 9.
