Match report
On a warm but overcast day Purley headed to the lovely ground of Hartley Wintney for a friendly match. The Purley vice-captain called heads and for the umptence time this season it was wrong and the Hartley Wintney skipper Graham Jackson elected to field. Purley got off to a great start with Pete Rackley and Pahi Selveratnam doing some damage before Pahi was bowled for 31, two balls later Gerry Morgan got a ball to turn from leg to off to bowl Bilal Hasan for 0, that bought Robbie Jeffery to the crease and he started well and hit a glorious six over long on and looked destined for a big score but Morgan got him to advance down the track and he was stumped for 21 and Purley were 86 for 3. Jordan Rowland, on his return to the team batted sensibly but was undone by Sadiq and when Sadiq had Gary Burne brilliantly caught at point the next ball the score was 113 for 6. Matt Stange on debut for the adult side batted well but was out-foxed by Morgan Bowman as were Junees and Sam Woodhouse it was soon 145 for 9. Captain Barry Carter and Pete Rackley nearly saw out the innings before Barry was out for 13 attempting one too many shots and that left Pete Rackley undefeated on 81 and a valuable boost to his confidence after a run of disappointing scores. After a fantastic tea, Hartley Wintney were soon in trouble as first Jordan Rowland who bowled Boston for 4 around his legs and then Robbie Jeffery with two wickets in one over reduced them to 13 for 4. The HW skipper, Graham Jackson and James Gilbert led the fightback and took the total to 60 before Barry Carter deceived James with an even slower ball and bowled him for 15. Graham Jackson was finally out for 43 when Nufail produced a ball to bowl him but Purley couldn't quite force the win and were left frustrated as Robbie Jeffery claimed his fourth wicket of the innings to finish with 4 for 22 off 8 overs to leave Hartley Wintney 62 runs short on 115 for 9.
