Match report The under 11’s travelled to Newbury for their first run out of the season and were met with a damp slow wicket and slow outfield but at least the sun was shining. POTCC lost the toss and were inserted to bat and Daniel and Sam opened up and looked comfortable. A good opening stand was only ended with Sam being given out LBW for 2. Jimmy who has come up from the U9’s looked well assured and took the attack to Newbury who were finding bowling fairly difficult with numerous extras. All the boys batted well and looked in great nick with Dan scoring 11,Jimmy 8. POTCC lost a couple of wickets and it was up to the newly appointed captain Paul and Austin to carry on the good work. The main contributor to the POTCC score of 99 of the 20 overs was our old friend “extras” who contributed 62. Our score looked competitive with the wicket playing low and slow but all the bowlers would need to keep it tight for us to have a chance.
As it turned out our total was above par with Jimmy ( 2-4) , Paul (1-11), Sam (1-18) plus Austin who didn’t concede a run off the bat in his 3 overs proving to be the main contributors with the ball. All the boys got a chance to bowl and there were great fielding performances by Kieran, Owen, Richard, Conner, and Adam. The Newbury innings finished on 84 giving POTCC a 15 run victory. Special praise must also go to Ben our new wicket keeper who did a great job behind the stumps and kept the byes to a minimum.
Work needs to be done on bowling with wides and no-balls being by far the main contributor to the Newbury score.
All-round a great start to the season with a few U9’s coming in doing a great job, and also a special mention to Jimmy who had a chance of a hatrick in his first U11’s game and also instigated a run out with a direct hit.
