Match report The Potters entertained Hurst on a sunny day at the Goosecroft. Before the match both sides observed a minutes silence in memory of Ray Day who passed away on the Monday.
The skipper won the toss and elected to bat first on a good looking track. The Potters did not start well with Lemar, Reebs and Amit returning to pavillion before we had reached 50. The skipper batting in his new role at number 4 looked to rebuild the innings. Together with Rackers we were able to put a good partneship together. The skipper eventually fell for 96 after inside edging a cut shot onto his stumps. Chris made a very important 35. Some late order hitting from Nick and Caleb helped with the innings ending after 52 overs with a score of 236 for 9.
After a lovely tea the Potters came out fired up with the ball. Nick and Caleb bowled excellently and soon reduced Hurst to 10 for 2 after 8 overs. The Smith brothers dug in and built a partnership to steady the visitors. The early loss of wickets seem to force Hurst into playing for the draw rather than chase the runs. In the end Hurst finished 151 for 7 from 48 overs. The skipper took 3, Caleb 2 and Nick 2 in a disciplined bowling display.
Good performance in the end by the Potters, still the all round team performance is lacking - let's hope it all clicks next week at Hillingdon!
