Royal Ascot v Purley on Thames CC Saturday 1st XI on Sat 29 Jun 2013 at 1300
Purley on Thames CC Won by 1 wicket
Match report
The Potters travelled to Royal Ascot for a crucial game in Division 3a. The Potters won the toss and on a dry looking wicket decided to bowl first, backing his batsman to chase whatever total Ascot could post.
We started scrappy with some wayward bowling which allowed Ascot to hit some early boundaries. Some excellent bowling from Caleb restricted them and then the introduction of slow bowlings Cyril and Patrick the scoring rate further decreased. There was some comical fielding with Dave's long barrier having some cracks in it and Rebers attempts at catching (OMG)!
In the end Royal Ascot posted 185 for 9 from 52 overs with Caleb picking up an excellent 5 for 38 from 13 overs.
The Potters chase started bad with the skipper going in the 2nd over for 4. Lemar and Rahu steadied and hit some crisp boundaries. It all looked good for the Potters at 140 for 4 with Reebs looking set. Then in the 30th over the Ascot skipper took a hatrick and a few overs later a couple more wickets followed, leaving us 152 for 9.
Enter Cyril Cox, alongwith Reebs they manipulated the strike and managed to get us over the line with a brilliant 34 run partnership. Reebs ended 71 not out and Cyril was 5 not out.
Great win by the guys, but still making hard work of situations that we should be winning easily. Lets continue this winning run next week!
