Match report Purley on Thames finally won their first match of the season to keep their hopes of avoiding the drop. Purley entertained fellow strugglers Hurst 2 at the Goosecroft and after Purley skipper Chris Priestley had won the toss Purley set about the wickets almost from the off as Vikram Kamath removed opener Everitt thanks to a smart, low catch behind the stumps by Dan Barclay. Andrew Bailey removed the other opener and Hurst were 23 for 2. A big partnership worth 130 was finally broken with the first ball from Barry Carter as he claimed Rob Morgan LBW for 65. Hurst lost regular wickets and finally finished on 210 for 9 off 52 overs as Barry Carter finished with 3 for 18 off 10 overs and Jeff Hinds 2 for 21 off 5. In reply Purley struggled against some tight bowling and Banerjee made the early breakthroughs as he bowled both Pete Rackley (1) and Gautham Kamath (26). Chris Priestley and George Wheeler pushed the score along before Chris snicked one behind and was gone. When George departed the hopes of a first win were hanging by a thread as Purley were 84 for 4 but a brilliant 85 partnership by Dan Barclay and Jack Purser saw them to 169 when Dan got given LBW for 40. Jack was finally out for 70 with the score on 194 for 7 and some lusty blows by Andrew Bailey (15 not out) and Jeff Hinds (7 not out) saw Purley home by 3 wickets and 20 priceless points...same again next week against British Airways 3.
