Match report
Purley on Thames Sunday XI visited Mortimer for a friendly timed match. Purley skipper, Barry Carter won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a pudding of a pitch and when Andrew Clarke lost his middle stump it looked a bad decision but Pete Rackley and Sanjeev Sadhwani batted brilliantly and added 126 for the second wicket before Pete was out for 67. Sanjeev soon followed for a Purley high score of 45, some big-hitting from Kirwin Roach as he plundered 35 not out from 33 balls saw Purley to a challenging total of 188 for 6 from 41 overs. In reply Mortimer were soon in trouble as Clive Kent bowled the first two batsmen cheaply but a spirited fightback was led by Stan Fritz who hit an unbeaten 91. Sam Woodhouse was the pick of the other Purley bowlers as he took 3 for 31 from 8 overs as Mortimer fell just short on 161 for 9 from 39 overs so a winning draw to Purley.
