Purley on Thames CC Sunday XI v Woodley on Sun 30 Jun 2013 at 1400
Purley on Thames CC Lost by 6 wickets
Match report
Purley on Thames Sunday XI suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost by six wickets. It all started badly as the skipper lost the toss and then saw both openers for 0 to leave is reeling on 0 for 2. It got worse as Paul Reber was bowled for 4 and we were 14 for 3. In form Robert Clarke hit a few lusty blows on his way to 17 before he was caught behind. The fall of the fourth wicket at 39 brought together experienced Andy Stephens and youngster George Clarke who had been promoted up the order on recent form to number six. George quickly moved to 22 with five fours whilst Andy ground his way past fifty. George was finally out for 45, his highest score in adult cricket as he mistimed a drive and was caught at mid on. Andy and George had put on 99 for the fifth wicket to put us back into contention, Andy was ninth out for 89 as he was adjudged LBW with the score on 183. Purley finally made it to a competitive score of 190. Woodley started really quickly and were 65 for 0 after only 11 overs, we managed to peg the scoring back a little as they reached drinks on 100 for 0. An inspirational team talk by the skipper saw two wickets fall in three balls as Paul Reber had opener Jordy Goddard caught at slip by Andy Stephens for 44 and then two balls later Anjan picked out Barry Carter at mid on and was well caught for 0. Paul Reber made it three wickets in nine balls as Robert Clarke ran in from the cover boundary to cling on to remove Ahmed for 5. Jawaad and Kash Ali saw them to socres level before Kash was caught by Vikram Kamath for 50 but Jawaad remained unbeaten on 59 as Woodley won by six wickets.
