Woolhampton v Purley on Thames CC Sunday XI on Sun 07 Jul 2013 at 1400
Purley on Thames CC Won by 34 runs
Match report
Purley Sunday friendly XI got back to winning ways on the hottest Sunday of the year so far, as they travelled the short distance to Douai Abbey to play Woolhampton. The Purley skipper won the toss for the fifth time in a row and elected to bat to save his fielders from the midday sun. Purley lost Pete Rackley for only 3 as he edged behind but a good partnership between young left handers Robbie Jeffery and Max Baker-Smith saw the total to 60. Robbie continued to play some attractive shots and made his way to 52 before he too edged behind and we were 87 for 3. Robert Clarke and George Wheeler both made it into the teens before they were out for 14 and 13 as we had slumped to 111 for 5. Andrew Clarke played his part in the recovery as he made a good 33 and with good support from George Clarke 14 not out we finally made it to 180 for 9 off 40 overs. When it came to our turn to bowl they got off to a flyer with Line and Richard Leach looking good, it took the appearance of the Purley skipper to get the wickets tumbling as Barry Carter first tempted Line to the thinnest of edges behind and then the next ball Day swished across the line and was bowled. Howes and Hand then rebuilt before the introduction of Robbie Jeffery and Max Baker-Smith stemmed the flow of runs and this brought about six wickets between them. George Clarke also claimed one and Pete Rackley wrapped up a 36 run victory for Purley as he bowled Pete Howe.
