Match report Purley on Thames hosted Reading Lawyers for the first time, it was agreed to play 40 overs. Purley won the toss and elected to bat on a track that had yielded nearly 500 runs the day before. A brilliant opening partnership of 126 between Peter Rackley and Robbie Jeffery was first interrupted by the rain, which resulted in an overs reduction to 35 overs, and then when Pete was caught at mid-off by Dave Loosemoore for 44. Max Baker-Smith hit a couple of fours until he was well caught at square leg for 9. Robbie Jeffery had batted superbly for his 81 before he was bowled by a yorker by Amjal and Purley were 153 for 3. George Wheeler was promoted up the order and some lusty blows quickly took him to 36 before he was bowled by De Wet. Purley on Thames made 201 for 6 from their 35 overs. Reading Lawyers got off to a positive start and put on 35 for the first wicket when Burrows was caught at slip by Robbie Jeffery off the bowling of Max Baker-Smith for 21. Max made it two wickets as he bowled Mayer for 10. Purley skipper, Barry Carter then trapped opener, Baker LBW for 35 to give Purley some hope of victory at 87 for 3 but a brisk 84 not out by De Wet, which took him past 1000 runs for the season and 35 not out by Lake saw Reading Lawyers to victory by seven wickets with three overs to spare. A game played in good spirit despite the miserable weather conditions.
