Match report Purley on Thames Sunday 2nd XI maintained their unbeaten record as they overcame both the rain and Hartley Wintney to win by 145 runs. The Purley skipper won the toss for the third time in a row (some sort of personal record) and elected to bat. A few hits through the cover area by Pete Rackley quickly moved the total to 16 off 3 overs but we were pegged back when Ashley holed out for 3. Robbie Jeffery entered the fray and some crisp shots saw him to 47, just after Pete Rackley had reached 52 he skied one to mid on and we were 115 for 2, a few balls laters we were 120 for 4 as both Robbie and then George Wheeler were well caught. A few more quick wickets followed until the end when George Clarke and Vikram Kamath hit some lusty blows and we finished on 201 for 8 off 36 overs. In reply the skipper, Barry Carter opted to open himself despite a sore neck and shoulder but bowled left arm around surprisingly well and was so close to trapping the opener in the first over LBW but he got his man an over later with a ball that bowled Scott Jeffery. There was tight bowling from Vikram Kamath and Jeff Hinds before leg-spinner George Clarke was brought into the attack and in his 8 over spell he picked up 3 for 10 thanks to a turning pitch. George Wheeler and Robbie Jeffery mopped up the last six wickets between them as Hartley Wintney collapsed from 52 for 3 to 56 all out as Purley won by 145 runs. Well played everyone!
