Purley on Thames CC Sunday XI v Stonor on Sun 04 Aug 2013 at 1400
Purley on Thames CC Won by 155 runs
Match report
Purley on Thames Sunday XI got back on the winning trail after two weeks off as they overcame Stonor by 155 runs at the Goosecroft. Stonor skipper, John Powell won the toss and elected to field on an overcast day but the decision backfired as Purley moved to 68 before George Wheeler played on for 29. Robbie Jeffery and Pete Rackley added another 50 partnership before Robbie was caught at short fine leg for a brisk 32 that included 1 six and 5 fours. Pete's son, Chris joined him and they forged a decent 100+ partnership that saw them both past 50, Chris was unluckily run out on 58 as a straight drive from Pete clipped the bowler on the way through and hit the stumps at the non-strikers end with Chris out of his ground. There were two quick wickets as first Sandesh on debut was run out without facing a ball and then Jack Mundell edged one behind for 5 to leave Purley on 241 for 5. Pete continued towards a first ton of the season but with time running out missed a straight one and was bowled for 91. A brisk 18 from Robert Clarke and 5 from Ashley Hillier left Purley on Thames with a challenging score of 274 for 6 from 40 overs. In reply Purley got off to the best possible start as skipper, Barry Carter removed opener Bradshaw in the second over and when Rob Holman struck quickly in his second over Stonor were up against it. Three smartly taken slip catches by Chris Rackley, two off Ashley Hillier pushed Purley into complete control. Jack Mundell and Sandesh entered the fray with Sandesh bowling Harris around his legs just as he was looking dangerous and then Jack taking two wickets and that left Robert Clarke to come in and do what the skipper normally has a go at and mopped the tail up to finish with 3 for 7 off 3 overs and eave Stonor 119 all out off 30 overs. A really good contest played in a sporting manner with a friendly team, what more could you ask for...same again next game!
